Ingredients:

cup shortening or butter
2
cups sugar
½
cup cocoa
1
cup sour milk (to sour milk add 1 tablespoon vinegar to fresh milk and let sit)
2 eggs
2 ½
cups flour
2
teaspoon baking soda
½
teaspoon salt
1
cup hot tap water
1 teaspoon vanillaDirections:
1. Preheat
oven to 350 degrees.
2. Cream shortening
and sugar.
3. Add eggs one at a time,
beating well after each addition.
4. Add
cocoa and beat well.
5. Sift flour, soda,
and salt together.
6. Add flour mixture
alternately with sour milk. (Buttermilk
may used in place of sour milk.)
7. When
well blended, add hot water and vanilla.
* Don’t mix excessively, just enough to blend and pour into a greased and
floured 9x13 inch baking pan or 2 8- inch rounds.
8. Bake 35-40 minutes or until tooth pick
inserted in middle comes out clean.
